Deductible calculator 2027

Which deductible pays off for you?

Estimate your healthcare costs for one year. The calculator compares all of your insurer's deductibles using the official 2027 premiums and shows which one costs you the least overall.

Age group
Exact amount:CHF

This means all bills under basic insurance (doctor, medicines, therapies, hospital), not the premium. A good guide is your insurer's statement of benefits from last year.

How the deductible and retention work

1. Deductible

You pay the first francs of your costs each year yourself until the chosen deductible is reached: CHF 300 to 2'500 for adults, CHF 0 to 600 for children.

2. Retention of 10 %

Of the costs above the deductible, you pay 10 %, up to a maximum of CHF 700 per year (children CHF 350). The insurer covers the rest.

3. Premium

The higher the deductible, the lower the premium. Each insurer sets the size of the discount itself, which is why it pays to do the maths.

Example

Deductible of CHF 2'500 and costs of CHF 4'000 in the year: you pay the CHF 2'500 deductible plus 10 % of CHF 1'500, i.e. CHF 150 retention. Together that is CHF 2'650; the insurer covers CHF 1'350.

Frequently asked questions about the deductible

How does the deductible calculator work?

For each deductible, the calculator adds up the annual premium for your chosen insurer and model and what you pay yourself for the estimated costs: first the deductible, then a 10 % retention up to a maximum of CHF 700 per year (children CHF 350). The deductible with the lowest total is the cheapest for you.

Which costs should I estimate?

All bills covered by basic insurance: doctor, outpatient hospital treatment, prescription medicines, physiotherapy, laboratory etc. A good guide is your health insurer's statement of benefits from last year. The premium and benefits from supplementary insurance are not included.

From what level of costs does the CHF 300 deductible pay off?

That depends on the insurer, model and region, because the discounts for higher deductibles vary. Under “Which deductible suits which costs?” the calculator shows you exactly the amount at which the best choice changes. For adults, the threshold is often around CHF 2'000 of costs per year.

When can I change my deductible?

The change always applies from 1 January. You must apply for a higher deductible by 31 December at the latest and for a lower one by 30 November at the latest. You can use our sample letter for the deductible.

What is not included?

The contribution to hospital costs of CHF 15 per day for a hospital stay, discounts for families or multi-year contracts for supplementary insurance, and premium reductions. Maternity benefits are exempt from the deductible and retention. Only the health insurer's quote is binding.
